LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Frank Colonna has been focused on bringing solar energy to Long Beach for the past several years – and with great success. It was this focus that made possible the first solar powered fire station in the city with other pilot programs in the works at present.

Most recently, the Councilman discussed with Council the need to explore a pilot program to position Solar-Powered streetlights in our parking lots and alleys. As a concerned property owner on the Westside of Long Beach, I believe this would inspire a significant drop in crime throughout the city and certainly in the higher-crime and more blighted areas such as the Westside. The impact on this neighborhood because of illegal dumping and vandalism would be greatly mitigated were lighting to be installed in blind alleys and lots and I, for one, support Councilman Colonna’s position that solar energy is the future – and the future is upon us.
