Dear Neighbor:
Dave Roseman, Traffic Controller for the City, spoke to the WPAC at our last General Meeting regarding the restriction of truck parking along PCH. In this plan (initiated by Councilwoman Laura Richardson, 6th District), PCH would remain a truck route but truck parking would be restricted to loading/unloading only. We are concerned that you and your business will be impacted by such a decision and want your input before taking a position on the issue. Mr. Roseman is waiting to hear from the WPAC before making a formal recommendation to Council. The Traffic Engineer’s office has the “go ahead” from Caltrans to make such a change but is not compelled to make the change.
If trucks are restricted from parking on PCH, they will have to park elsewhere. We are concerned that the parking problems along Santa Fe will be compounded if the parking is further restricted on PCH. With this initial proposal, there is no alternative parking suggested for the trucks that would be displaced by it. We (the Westside Project Area Committee) want to talk to the businesses along PCH and Santa Fe to see what you think of this proposal before we take a position.
You, as well as the entire neighborhood, are invited to the November 10 WPAC meeting for an in depth discussion of the pros and cons of such a decision. We will be taking a vote on this issue that evening and want to be sure we are representing the neighborhood’s best interests. Your opinion matters. We urge you to be proactive by joining us on the 10th and making your position known.
Sincerely,
Lee Adams
